Percentage Calculator FAQs
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply the result by the number. For example, 20% of 150 is (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30.
How do I find what percentage one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 30 is 20% of 150 because (30 ÷ 150) × 100 = 20%.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
Subtract the original value from the new value, divide the difference by the absolute original value, and multiply by 100. For a positive original value, this gives the usual percentage increase.
How do I calculate percentage decrease?
Subtract the new value from the original value, divide by the absolute original value, and multiply by 100. The calculator also displays a negative percentage change when the new value is lower.
Can I calculate a discount with this percentage calculator?
Yes. Choose “Subtract X% from a number”, enter the discount percentage and the original amount. The result is the amount after the percentage reduction.
Can I add tax or a markup to a price?
Yes. Choose “Add X% to a number”, then enter the tax or markup percentage and the starting amount. The result includes the added percentage.
Why can't I calculate percentage change from zero?
Percentage change uses the original value as the denominator. Division by zero is undefined, so a percentage change from an original value of zero cannot be calculated using this formula.
